Meals on Wheels NSW supports a statewide network of community-based, not-for-profit organisations providing meals and other services that help people live well at home.
We’re seeking a Research & Development Officer to support the design and implementation of a data strategy that improves consistency, visibility and capability across Meals on Wheels. You’ll drive statewide research, benchmarking and service gap analysis - and turn data into practical insights that support advocacy, policy, operational improvement and service expansion.
This is an ideal role for someone who loves analytics and cares about real-world outcomes.
What you’ll be doing
Data strategy & governance

Design and implement a data strategy to identify gaps and inconsistencies

Support development of a minimum data set and support alignment with a National Minimum Data Set

Establish robust processes for data collection, validation and reporting that members can actually use
Research & analytics

Deliver research projects (sector analysis, service gap mapping, benchmarking)

Identify regions without existing Meals on Wheels services to inform expansion discussions

Benchmark performance across NSW services and support inter-state comparisons
-
Generate clear insights that strengthen advocacy, policy submissions and strategic initiatives
Collaboration & influence

Work closely with the CEO and Statewide Services and Engagement teams

Translate technical information for diverse audiences (members, leadership, stakeholders)

Present findings, dashboards and recommendations in a way that drives action

Support Meals on Wheels services across NSW to meet new aged care meal obligations
Help services get “ready” - fast.
Meals on Wheels NSW is seeking a hands-on Dietitian for a full-time, 3 month fixed term contract to help member services prepare for and meet meal-related obligations under the new aged care environment.
This is a practical implementation role. You’ll provide timely advice, develop tools and templates, and translate requirements into clear, usable guidance for community-based meal services across New South Wales.
If you’re an Accredited Practising Dietitian (or equivalent) who loves turning complexity into simple resources people actually use, we’d love to hear from you.
Member advice and readiness support

Provide dietetics advice to member services on meeting meal-related requirements and expectations

Respond to nutrition and menu governance queries and help services solve problems quickly and safely

Identify common gaps and create practical “how-to” guidance to uplift the network
Tools, templates and resources (your core output)

Develop and refine practical resources such as:

menu review and governance templates

dietitian assessment guidance

checklists for meal compliance readiness

documentation examples and simple workflows

FAQs and “plain-English” explainer sheets for staff and volunteers

Contribute dietetics input into training resources (e.g., short guides, webinar content, quick reference tools)
Quality, safety and consistency

Support consistent approaches to meal quality, nutrition adequacy, special diets and texture-modified meals

Maintain/strengthen knowledge and resources related to IDDSI where relevant

Work collaboratively with internal colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure resources are workable in real-world kitchens and volunteer-led services
What we’re looking for
Essential

Tertiary qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics (or equivalent)

Eligible for professional membership (Dietitians Australia or equivalent)

Strong ability to translate requirements into clear, practical tools (templates, checklists, guides)

Confident communicator with a warm, supportive style for advising services under pressure

Strong time management and the ability to produce high-quality outputs quickly
Desirable

Experience in aged care, community meals, public health nutrition, or quality/compliance environments

About Meals on Wheels NSW
Meals on Wheels NSW exists to build the capacity and resilience of a network of self-managed, not-for-profit community organisations delivering meals and other supports that help people live well in their community. We are a trusted partner to our members and an influential advocate in the public arena.
The Role
This role provides statewide support and advice to member services in nutrition and meal quality for older Australians.
You’ll ensure member meal services align with the meal obligation requirements under the Aged Care Act, National Meal Guidelines, and relevant nutrition and food safety standards. You will lead the creation of practical tools, training, and resources that support members to deliver nutritious, safe, and culturally appropriate meals.
You will also act as the organisation’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) in dietetics and nutrition policy, contributing to sector standards, government policy, and innovation in aged care nutrition and meal service delivery.
National Meal Guidelines and Expertise

Lead assessment of Meals on Wheels meal provision practices at local and state levels against the Meals on Wheels Nutrition and Meal Guidelines.

Ensure meal services comply with the Aged Care Act, associated principles, and relevant food standards.

Develop communication materials and guidance resources to support effective guideline implementation.

Provide evidence-based advice to management and boards on compliance and quality risks.

Contribute dietetics and nutrition expertise to policy, advocacy, and government relations work.
National Meal Guidelines Stewardship

Maintain, review, and update guideline materials, ensuring alignment with best practice and aged care nutrition standards.

Develop and curate implementation resources (videos, webinars, toolkits, guidance documents and thought pieces).
Quality Assurance and Audit

Design and lead an audit program to evaluate provider compliance with national meal and nutrition guidelines.

Collaborate with production kitchens and third-party providers to ensure standards are met across production and distribution.

Analyse results to identify improvement opportunities and support services to meet or exceed minimum standards.

Present findings and recommendations to leadership, member organisations, and relevant external bodies.
Dietetics Advisory and Support

Provide an advice line for member services seeking guidance on nutrition-related queries.

Act as SME for internal projects, policy and advocacy initiatives.

Develop accessible tools and guidance for frontline teams, volunteers, and partner organisations.

Collaborate across the network to promote shared learning and innovation.
Education and Capacity Building

Develop and deliver training and professional development resources (e.g., malnutrition identification, nutrition for independence, food safety).

Facilitate webinars, workshops, and e-learning modules for member services and volunteers.
Innovation and Research

Identify emerging trends and best practice models for aged care meal delivery.

Research new approaches including sustainable sourcing, functional foods, and alternative proteins.

Your Role
Reporting to the Board of Management, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the service - from staff and volunteer management, compliance and financial oversight, through strategic planning, funding and community engagement. Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective leadership and day-to-day operational management
- Oversee staff and volunteer coordination, recruitment and supervision, including National Police Checks
- Ensure compliance with Aged Care Act and other relevant standards including ACNC Annual Report
- Manage budgets, funding acquittals and financial reporting, including Annual External Audit and report to AGM
- Support marketing, communications and community relationships
- Keep Board regularly informed of key issues, risks and strategic opportunities
- Develop, implement and review policies and procedures to support safe, high-quality service delivery

About the role
This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing the volunteer recruitment, induction and recognition events for Community Care services.
The role is a key part of and support in ensuring systems of volunteer management are in line with best practice. This is a 6-month, part-time term contract (24.5 hours per week). It is preferred the successful candidate to work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
On a daily basis you will:
- Coordinate planning and implementation of volunteer recruitment including local marketing, media opportunities, identify marketing opportunities and develop innovative recruitment strategies.

You will also bring:
